Hand Papermaking magazine was founded in 1986 by Amanda
Degener and Michael Durgin. Two issues of the magazine have
been published every year since, resulting in a unique repository
of information and inspiration on the art and craft of hand
papermaking. Each issue features articles on a variety of
topics within the field, including: contemporary artistic
approaches, craft techniques, historical topics and reference,
international development, and educational initiatives. Articles
are written by experts in the field, many of them practitioners,
and each magazine includes at least one unique sample of
handmade paper.
Originally 28 pages, the magazine now a
48-page journal. Black
and white photos and illustrations supplement the text inside
the magazine, while full-color images appear on the cover
(beginning with the Summer 1995 issue).
We send the magazine (with Hand Papermaking
Newsletter)
world-wide to a subscriber base of over 1200 individuals,
museums, libraries and universities. Subscribers reflect
the growing population of those interested in this field
for artistic, educational and environmental reasons. Because
of its permanent, documentary nature, the magazine is collected
as part of institutional archives and reference acquisition
efforts. Notable subscribers include well-known public and
private libraries, major universities, and prominent museums.
