The
Crane Museum of Dalton, Massachusetts, presents the
history of papermaking from 1801.
Dard
Hunter Studios of Chillicothe, Ohio, carries on the
heritage of Dard Hunter (1881-1966), a major influence in
the American Arts and Crafts Movement, and a world explorer
who documented the craft of hand papermaking in varied
cultures. He wrote hundreds of articles and eighteen books,
eight of which he printed on a hand press with his own
hand-cut types and handmade papers.
The
Friends of Dard Hunter meets each October in a different
U.S. city to exchange information and educate its members
and the public about the art, craft, history, science, and
technology of papermaking. Publishes Bull and Branch
newsletter.
IPH,
The International Association of Paper Historians brings
together professionals of varied disciplines, and all
friends of paper, addressing the field of paper
history.
IAPMA,
The International Association of Papermakers and Artists
is dedicated to assisting all those interested in hand
papermaking and paper art. Its main objective is to
facilitate and encourage an international exchange of ideas
and information. Meets yearly. Publishes quarterly
bulletins, newsletters.
International Paper Museum of Brookline, Massachusetts, includes
old and rare books on the subject of papermaking, rare book
forms, papermaking moulds and tools, handmade papers,
collections of Chinese and Tongan papers, papermaking
plants, and audio-visual material documenting hand
papermaking here and abroad.
Papermakers
of Victoria is an Australian group devoted to
encouraging and supporting hand papermakers through the
exchange of ideas and information about hand
papermaking.
RittenhouseTown
in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was America's first paper
mill, built in 1690 by Wilhelm Rittenhouse who was trained
as a papermaker in Germany.
The
Robert C. Williams Paper Museum in
Atlanta, Georgia, is an internationally renowned resource on
the history of paper and paper technology. In addition to a
library of over 2000 books, the museum features a
researchable collection of over 10,000 watermarks, papers,
tools, machines, and manuscripts. The Museum features the
Dard Hunter collection, and is also home to Hand
Papermaking's Artist Registry.
