Artist Registry

Artists in the Current Registry...

Hand Papermaking's artist registry serves the papermaking community as a means for artists to have their work available for critical review; for archivists and historians to see artworks from any particular time period; and for scholars, publicists, curators, and others to view current handmade paper art.

All slides are now housed in Atlanta at the Robert C. Williams Paper Museum. Owing to the prominence of its internationally known collection, the Museum is a prime destination for those interested in handmade paper as an art form. Hand Papermaking's registry archives are housed in Atlanta as well. We greatly appreciate the support of Columbia College Chicago Center for Book and Paper Arts, and the Minnesota Center for Book Arts, our registry's previous hosts.

Two juried sets of slides were excerpted from Hand Papermaking's registry in the early 1990's and promoted as representing the finest in late 20th-century handmade paper artwork. Another juried set was recently compiled. The jurors were Teri Williams, curator at Robert C. Williams' Paper Museum; Karen Stahlecker, award-winning and widely exhibited paper artist; and Mina Takahashi, Executive Director of Programs at Dieu Donné Papermill in New York (and now Hand Papermaking editor). They chose a special subset of images from the registry, highlighting the work of 19 of the 117 artists juried. These images will be promoted in our publications, featured on our website, and are now available on a CD-ROM or as duplicate sets for sale (more info here).
