Be Part of NAHP's May Mail Art Exchange

May 16, 2022

North American Hand Papermakers invites members to participate in a monthly Mail Art Exchange! Each month we will provide a theme pertaining to a concept or technique for participants to create a series or edition of paper works to be shared with others. May’s theme is “Blue,” as we wait for the clouds to move out and the sun bring us a glorious spring. Participants are free to interpret this broad theme however they wish! Registration is free to NAHP members and should be completed before May 1, 2022.

Participants will receive an email with instructions and addresses by the end of the first week of May and should send their pieces so they are postmarked before the end of the month.

Please send any questions or theme suggestions to VP Membership and Outreach, Maria Welch: membership@northamericanhandpapermakers.org

The goal of the Mail Art Exchange is to link NAHP members and papermakers to each other and create a greater sense of community through the wonders of snail mail! Using handmade paper is not required and participants are responsible for their own postage. We often have international participants, please keep this in mind when planning how to send out works. The number of pieces required for each participant to create is contingent on how many people signed up that month, but if there are more than 15 participants addresses will be divided evenly.

We are excited to continue this partnership with Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking which has generously offered to house an archive of these exchanges! As a result, we ask that all flat work be able to fit inside a 9 ½” x 12 ½” envelope and any 3D work not exceed 4” in any direction.
