There are just a few spots left for Hannah O'Hare Bennett's "Butterfly Wing" technique class at the Atlas Science Center (formerly Paper Discovery Center). This class is underwritten by Arnold Gruumer's, and follows up on Arnold Grummer's PAPER ON THE RIVER 2022. Hannah served as Guest Judge and Masterclass Instructor at the event.
Butterfly wing paper is a technique developed by Bennett over the past few years. The finished product is quite thin, but strong, and is useful for expressive purposes or for home decor. 2023 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of influential American papermaker Arnold Grummer. Blending a knowledge of paper history and the science of papermnaking, Grummer wrote five books and developed an influential presentation he called "Great American Paper Machine." Grummer appeared numerous times on television, gave presentations at the Smithsonian Institution, and once made with a U.S. President and several visiting dignitaries.
In 1999, the Friends of Dard Hunter acknowledged Arnold’s distinctive contributions by giving him its first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award: “For advancing the art of paper making… and sharing your infectious joy of the craft with us all.” In 2012, Arnold Grummer was inducted to the Paper Industry International Hall of Fame in the category of Service, Educator, Entrepreneur.
Arnold Grummer left thousands of sheets of handmade paper and 3D paper objects — some quirky, some amazing — in binders, boxes, and files.
