The 2021 Year-End Broadside Is Another Instant Classic!
Every year, thanks to the support of our amazing community of paper artists, we are privileged to present a beautiful Year-End Broadside, and this year is no exception! The result of an amazing collaboration between the poet and creative force Akua Lezli Hope, papermaker and evangelist of all things paper Helen Hiebert, and printmaker and artist Anna Benjamin, this stunning work encompasses all the possibility and potential of paper as an art form.
Akua Lezli Hope's evocative and ruminative poem “Why Paper” inspired Helen Hiebert to create a custom batch of lightly pigmented, highly beaten, handmade wild abaca paper for the broadside. Helen developed a two-step drying process which results in the paper's uniquely irregular texture. Anna Benjamin created the unique illustration and typographical treatment, and then printed the broadside in her Philadelphia studio.
